Stuff: Hi - I am Jackie Jaakola, Director of the Marine Mammal Care Center at Fort MacArthur. In conjunction with the upcoming IMATA conference in Long Beach, CA, our facility is organizing a Marineland reunion on Thursday, November 20. Our facility opened in 1992 to cover rehabilitation in the area once covered by Marineland. We have a rich history to be traced back to the park - as do many folks currently working with marine animals. This event will have food, friendship, entertainment, cash bar, live auction of memorabilia by Jim Roope (CNN Radio), etc. We are trying to locate any/all Marinelanders that we can. We are also looking for memorabilia. We also need sponsors. If you can or would like to help in any way - please contact me at donzum@aol.com Thank you

Stuff: I visited California for the first time in 1980 and did the usual tourist thing. As a child in 1969 I had visited Marineland in Florida and loved it so when I found out that there was one in California near to where I was I wanted to see it! As I approached Marineland it was quite obvious that something was wrong, it seemed that the road to it was shifting badly as if it were on a faultline and then I discovered that the park was about to close for good! I went to Marineland that day and enjoyed what were closeout admission prices (half-price I think) and had a fantastic day. The park was beautiful and it saddened me to know it was all coming to an end within days or weeks. I still have my ticket stub from January 1980 all these years later in my NJ home. I am happy that I got to experience Marineland of the Pacific while it was still with us and cherish the memories to this day. Tim J

Stuff: I found a deck of Marineland playing cards today and it brought back memories of my visits to the park as a child. I thought I would search for a web site and came across yours. I hope that in the future you are able to post more information about the park. My most vivid memory of Marineland was when I first met Bubbles. We watched the show and afterwards walked down to the tank. Bubbles swam over to us. I'm sure it was 'cause he wanted to meet me. We then went downstairs to the viewing windows. Suddenly Bubbles swan up to the window to see me. He stayed there looking at me until I left. We were soul mates from that point on. I bought a souvenier ceramic whale to take home. I talked to it often. Well, that's how I remember it. I'm sure there was more than one whale that looked like Bubbles, but . . . By the way, was Bubbles a he or a she?
