Baker What is so special about this place,
you ask? Well, it is the Southern Gateway to Death Valley and boasts the
worlds tallest thermometer. The thermometer is 138 feet tall. That height
was chosen, because the hottest temperature ever recorded in this region
was 138° F. Yes, it was quite warm that day. The thermometer
is located on the grounds of the Bun Boy restaurant. They have fresh strawberry
short cake year round here. They must have strawberry hunters searching
the world over to find when they are in season. Baker is actually
a very good launching point to go to other pares of the eastern Mojave
Desert. There is gas, lodging, food and most of the modern conveniences
that you will probably need.
